Then there are those days…

Those days when everything seems to be going wrong. You’re not just off the wagon, but you seemingly blew it up! You wake up in the morning, have zero time to get yourself ready, and are rushing everyone out of the house. You manage to get everyone else breakfast except you. SO, it’s a quick drive through Starbucks for your favorite low fat latte and a piece of that oh so tempting lemon pound cake. That gave you a quick pick-me-up, but left you craving more sugar throughout the day which you of course succumb to.

You feel like a failure now and are thinking, “Well, I already screwed today up, so I might as well enjoy the rest of it before I start again tomorrow.” Even worse, you are thinking about giving up your goals and labeling yourself a failure.

An hour or so later you’re crashing, so it’s time for more candy, cookies, or cake or whatever is in the lunchroom. You feel as if it is a never-ending spiral into sugar. Now you’ve ridden the sugar and junk food rollercoaster all day, so you might as finish it off with some wine to drown out that shaming voice in your head shouting, “What the h*&# were you thinking today….”?

And you wish for just one friend that is on the same journey so you can cry on their shoulder or get a quick pep talk to keep going. Someone that has been where you are, someone who gets it and gets you. Someone that can empathize and then show you what you can do to get better. You can’t just post this on Facebook, because you would just be opening yourself up to other “helpful advice” that doesn’t feel so helpful, right?! And besides, everything has to look perfect on Facebook. You feel more alone and powerless than ever.

I have been there!

Before I was trained as a Registered Nutrition Consultant, I was living on sugar, caffeine and fast food. I was trying to lose weight, but had no clue what I was doing. I tried diet after diet, counting calories and points, eating nothing but cottage cheese and carrots every day for lunch for an entire year, drinking coffee with every meal, exercising more, eating low fat which of course meant that Twizzlers and Skittles are perfect snacks and so on.

When I started making changes, it got a bit lonely. Most of my friends were living the same lifestyle as I had been, so when I started making healthier choices, not all of them were on board with it or even excited for me to make changes. Going out to eat, many of them looked at me as if I was nuts when I asked the waiter what was in something or if they could make changes to what was on the menu.

I hated feeling like I was different. I despised feeling like a short order cook, but had no idea how to get my family on board. It drove me nuts when someone told me to stop worrying about my weight or just eat smaller portions. I needed someone that could celebrate the big things and the small things with me or talk me off the ledge when chocolate was calling my name.

I didn’t miss the extra weight I was releasing, the bulge around my middle, or how tired I was, but I did feel like I was missing something out of my life.

I missed feeling like a community, feeling like I had other people that got me and were in my corner. Then I started working in a company whose employees were focused around wellness which made it easier, but it wasn’t until I really created a circle of friends that were focused on feeling better and living better that things started to shift for me. It was no longer about counting points and calories, restriction, or thinking that if no one else sees me, then it doesn’t count.

Slowly over months, I created new friendships with other women that got me. I no longer felt alone in my challenges or in shame about my donut addiction. They knew how to eat well, how to cook, how to be gentle with themselves and with me, never expecting perfection like I’d always demanded of myself.

Women that would talk me down when I was on the edge and lift me up when I was down. Women that could and would cheer me on as I succeeded and be with me in my struggles.

Friendships that began to grow and deepen. Friends that would become instrumental in creating health and a life that I love. Women that I consider my dearest friends today!

Why Me & the Huddle?

My name is Jen Beck and I am a Registered Nutrition Consultant, author, speaker and founder of Complete Health Revolution. I created this exclusive membership group for people that are just like me.

I spent years on and off the scale, on and off diets, feeling sluggish, exhausted – living on caffeine and sugar, and just kind of slogging through life, beating myself up for every indulgence I had, because of its impact on my scale.

I didn’t know how good I could feel until I started to feel better. And if it wasn’t for a dramatic incident in my mom’s health, I may have never thought about doing anything different than what I was doing.

Today, it’s 17+ years later and I am even more committed than ever to help free women from the diet rollercoaster, the demoralizing self-abuse, and the need to be a perfectionistic, do-it-all-myself, overachiever that leaves you exhausted, overweight, sick and stuck!

Through my own journey and working with men and women for close to 2 decades, I have been able to be a part of changing lives, helping folks reach health goals that they once thought were out of reach. It has been an honor to do so and I realize that in today’s day and age, it can be even more challenging to remain vigilant about our health when everything around us tells us to live for the moment, eat this and you’ll be happy, with food manufacturers creating physiologically addicting foods and not to mention the pressure to be perfect, age flawlessly and be a size 6 indefinitely.

I get it and I want to be that ongoing support for you.

I know that not everyone wants/needs someone to coach them one-on-one. I know that many of us want to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, have support in making changes and love the camaraderie of having others on the journey with us.

We are not meant to do life alone!

And sometimes, you can even be a part of a group, but can feel too impersonal and like you can’t really get to know the people you see each week at a 30-minute meeting. You are looking for a place to really let your hair down, be real and get your questions answered.

I feel like I have fallen into such a routine that I don’t really think about what I am eating anymore. (There is an angel food cake sitting on my counter for a week now and it’s not even whispering my name) The choices come easily, exercise is getting easier (increased speed by .2 mph, still 3.0 incline) and I am not obsessing over the scale anymore. Whew!! Feel tons lighter just with those changes!

Best part…going hiking with my Mom tomorrow. I am ready to hit the trails!
